Jawa Barat Launches Diaspora Forum (Forum Diaspora Jabar), Forging New Collaborations Worldwide

Bandung, West Java - 7 juni, 2023 - In a momentous event, the Governor of West Java inaugurated the West Java Diaspora Forum, marking a significant stride towards harnessing the potential of West Java's global diaspora community for regional development. The launch event, conducted both online and offline at the East Hall of Gedung Sate, brought together Indonesian diaspora from around the world, eager to contribute to the growth of West Java.

The Urgency of Collaboration

Governor [Governor's Name] emphasized the pivotal role of diaspora collaboration in West Java's development. He underlined that while the region boasts abundant natural resources, the true driving force behind development lies in its human resources.

"To accelerate regional development, we must not only seize domestic opportunities but also tap into global prospects through paradiplomacy," the Governor explained. Paradiplomacy, often executed through formal channels like Sister Province agreements or technical collaborations, has its limitations. However, the Governor stressed the untapped potential of West Java's diaspora, numbering over 50 million, as a valuable partnership gateway. Despite certain challenges, diaspora members are well-positioned to expedite knowledge transfer and foreign development opportunities, overcoming barriers such as language and cultural differences.

Two-Tiered Forum Structure

The West Java Diaspora Forum is designed to operate on two levels. Firstly, there will be scheduled meetings held twice a year in semesters one and two. Secondly, proposals from Government Agencies (Organisasi Perangkat Daerah or OPD) or diaspora members (facilitated through the Indonesian Embassies abroad) will be considered.

Online participation in these events is open to all diaspora Indonesians worldwide, ensuring inclusivity. Offline events, including the launch, will accommodate around 130 attendees, adhering to health and safety protocols.

Benefits for Society

The benefits of the Forum are manifold, offering opportunities for both diaspora members and the people of West Java. Diaspora members can leverage their international experiences and knowledge to contribute to six key areas:

Education: Enhancing the quality of education through improved teaching methods, research collaboration, and knowledge exchange.
Economy and Investment: Attracting investments and opening new business prospects in fields like technology, agriculture, and creative industries.
Tourism and Cultural Promotion: Promoting West Java's tourism and culture globally and aiding the development and promotion of local products.
Technology and Innovation: Bringing new technology and innovative ideas to West Java, aiding in technology infrastructure development.
Social and Community Development: Contributing to social programs targeting poverty alleviation, public health, and education.
Environment and Sustainable Development: Assisting in sustainable development and environmental preservation, particularly in resource management and climate adaptation.
One distinctive feature of the West Java Diaspora Forum is its logo, inspired by the Kapinis/Burung Walet (Swallow Bird) frequently found around Gedung Sate. The Swallow's migratory, cooperative, adaptable, and committed nature embodies the essence and hopes of the West Java diaspora.

The Forum boasts a diverse range of speakers, including scientists, high-achieving overseas students, animators, and YouTubers, promising a wealth of insights and inspiration for a brighter West Java.
