West Java - England Establish Cooperation to Facilitate Startups to Go International

BOGOR CITY – The West Java Provincial Government in collaboration with the British Government launched the Nurture to Scale a scale up programmers program for Indonesian startups.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said that cooperation through the program was considered important to encourage young people who were involved in the start-up sector to be able to go international.

"I'm here to see how West Java is represented by Bogor, it's very progressive for the creative economy (Ekraf), because there is a nurture of scale program, so the program from the British Government helps this cool start-up to become big and has a global scale," said Kang Emil at the Building Creative Center, Bogor City, Friday (12/11/2021).

A total of 35 start-ups from West Java will cooperate in the program to be marketed on British soil. This will be a breath of fresh air for the young people of West Java in welcoming the digital world in the future.

"That's the target, we are grateful that the West Java start-up was chosen by the British government as a model to be globalized by the British government's networking," he said.

In this activity, Kang Emil, who is familiarly called Ridwan Kamil, who was accompanied by the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya Sugiarto, received an invitation from the British Foreign Minister to explore further discussions about the collaboration between the British Government and the West Java Provincial Government so that the scale could be more global.

"Then both of us were invited by the British Foreign Minister in April to also connect what was discussed in Bogor on a large scale in London in England," said the governor.

In addition, the governor also explained that one of the collaborations with the British Government was related to the construction of the Maritime Polytechnic in Patimban, Subang.

"Then the collaboration to build a maritime polytechnic in Patimban was also appreciated and he was very happy," he said.

Kang Emil also said that he would conjure up 27 regencies/cities so that there could be creative creative centers inspired by the Light House in Glasgow.

“I want to create 27 regencies/cities with my mission as governor of course to spread the Light House-inspired creative economy center in Glasgow to be replicated in 27 regions in West Java. Therefore, your support (British Foreign Minister) through the British embassy is highly appreciated by West Java Creative Economy," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya Sugiarto, said that several start-ups or creative creatives in West Java had entered the British government's radar for collaboration.

“Indeed, several start-ups or creative creatives and young people are on the UK government's radar. We get guidance and exposure, actually the international network is the most important thing we welcome it by activating it here," said Bima.

Responding to the program owned by the British Government, Bima will soon hold a festival like the ITB Art Market at the Creative Center Building, Bogor City. With this event, it is hoped that the spirit of working for young people in West Java, especially Bogor, will continue to air.

"So next month we will hold a creative market such as the ITB art market. We make it here to collaborate with all parties," he said.

Bima also advised the young people of the city of Bogor to produce creative works while still loving the environment. Because this environmental issue has an international scale.

"What's interesting is that when issues go directly to the international arena, this is the issue of the environment, environment, energy, efficiency and so on, young people have to go into those issues. It's not just the context of economic benefits," he concluded.

British Government Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss said the working visit to West Java was a hub and technology collaboration.

“We want to work together on trade, investment and technology, we want to ensure artificial intelligence or 5G and data flow. We will give birth to economic benefits that during the pandemic slump," he said.

Elizabeth said that today's meeting was to launch the Nurture to Scale a Scale up Programmers for Indonesian Startups program by involving 35 young people who have startups.

"But today we are here to help tech companies become unicorns and decacorns and I want to congratulate the 35 startups on this program. We can't wait to welcome you to the UK to see the opportunities."

"I can see the hub and creative energy in West Java. I hope you (startup owners) can visit us," he added.
